•	BA Modern History, St John's College, Oxford.
•	Before entering Parliament John worked as a Communications Co-ordinator at Leeds City Council, a Press Officer for the European Parliamentary Labour Party and latterly ran a business organising conferences.
•	MP for Selby since 1997.
